How to make a meaningful collaborative project ?
1. Conceptual preparations
Think of various things you want to do
Don't be very specific
Check who are the other participants, it can bring you useful ideas for collaborations
You might even contact them...
Find where other people can join and interface your installation / performance / piece
2. Material / intellectual preparations
We are going to suggest a list of interfaces / formats / SDKs that will help with the technical interfacing.
If you are musician, prepare your tracks / midi files / midi instruments / real instruments/ amplifiers / hardware in a plug and play mode - this will reduce the time spent on solving technical problems / converting formats.
If you are a technology whiz, prepare all your softwares / compilers / interpreters / hardware / physical interfaces
try to keep in line with the suggested list or find and test the appropriate interface to your environment.
In any case, make a DiskOnKey backup of all the needed software installations to help other people install what they need to interact with your staff.
3. Social preparations
Don't spent all your time trying to perfect your project or solving technical problems.
When you get to some difficult point, make a rest, go around and visit other groups that are working.
Think how to bring in other people to your project even if it changes the original plan
Be prepared: at some point you will find you get only small part of what you planned and you can't solve all the technical problems.
Interesting new ideas and concepts emerge when we release control and collaborate, and that is the whole idea!
